Fear of Dentistry

A common fear

While sedation is a temporary solution to dental fear and anxiety, many patients would prefer not to be medicated and desire a more holistic approach. Also, some find that approaching dental treatment brings up severe, almost irrational fear. We encourage our patients to work with counselors and others skilled at helping people find ways to deal with their fears. This provides a more long-term solution and allows dentistry to be viewed as a process of becoming healthier rather than a fear inspiring event.

Sedation Dentistry

Medication to minimize anxiety

Even with all of the new materials, techniques, and technology, there are still millions of people who do not seek complete dental care. The reason is fear. With sedation dentistry, we are beginning to bridge the gap between new technology and patient comfort. Triazolam (Halcion,) although usually prescribed as a sleeping pill, is a medication that can greatly minimize anxiety associated with going to the dentist. Though in a relaxed state, you will still be able to communicate with the dentist while treatment is being performed. It is safe, effective, and wears off rapidly after the dental visit. We would be very happy to discuss this further with you.

Counseling
