Dental Crowns Austin
As time passes, our teeth, just like most other parts of our bodies, begin to weaken structurally. Decay, chips, cracks, worn enamel, discoloration, and lost fillings can all lead to a weakened tooth or teeth. This usually leads to surface problems that may make you dissatisfied with your smile. So what is the answer? In many cases, the solution is a dental crown. A dental crown, sometimes referred to as a cap, can be used to protect, strengthen, and provide overall improvement to the appearance of your smile. Dental crowns are dual-purpose, providing support to ensure a healthier tooth while also upgrading your smile!
The Art of Dental Crowns
Before a dental crown can be seated on your tooth, Dr. Matthews will first reshape the affected tooth to make room for the dental crown, then he will take an impression of the tooth which is then sent to a dental laboratory. This tooth impression is used to identify the shape and size of your tooth so that a proper-fitting crown can be made. Dr. Matthews will fit you with a temporary dental crown that you will wear while the permanent dental crown is being created, which usually takes about two weeks. Once the permanent dental crown is complete and is sent back to our office, Dr. Matthews will ensure a proper fit and will adjust the dental crown as required. When the fit is perfected the dental crown will be cemented onto your tooth and should last 10-15 years with proper care.

Dental Bridges and Crowns – The Connection
Dental bridges are replacements for missing teeth that are secured on either side of the gap by two dental crowns. When a dental bridge is placed there will always be two crowns used in order to keep the bridge in place. This way the bridge remains fixed and prevents neighbor teeth from drifting into the gap. Drifting teeth can cause bite problems. Dental implants are a good alternative to dental bridges.
