Questions About Clear Braces

Answers from Austin Dentist, Dr. Dan Matthews

Here are some of the most common questions that patients have about clear braces.

Can I Use Clear Braces?

Clear braces are the most widely sought method to straightening teeth, however, there are some limitations. Patients with severe straightening needs might not get the best results possible using Invisalign. Also, those who are known to clench and/or grind their teeth (called bruxism) are not always qualified to use clear braces because the pressure caused by these conditions can break the aligners.

If you have minimal straightening needs, you are likely a candidate. Both adults and adolescents can use clear braces! In fact they are extremely popular amongst professionals who need a more versatile straightening solution. Teens are also great candidates for Six Month Smiles. To best decide if you are qualified for clear braces in Austin, schedule a consultation with Dr. Matthews.

How Long Will It Take to Straighten My Teeth with Clear Braces?

The amount of time needed to see your final smile can take up to a year, if not a bit longer, but some patients reach their goals in six months. Every patient is different, and the treatment time all depends on the amount of straightening needed and the overall complexity of the case. Those with very minimal needs will probably see results much more quickly. Results also depend on how compliant patients are with the rules of clear braces. If you repeatedly forget to put your clear braces back in after removing them, then you risk prolonging your treatment time.

Are Clear Braces Better Than Traditional Braces?

This all comes down to personal preference and results. Some patients will get better results using traditional metal braces while some patients will get great results using clear braces. It’s important to remember that not everyone is a candidate for clear braces and that traditional braces are still considered by many dentists to be the gold standard for achieving a straighter smile.  In the end, neither system is better than the other. Each will provide an improved straighter smile for the right patient.

How Much Do Clear Braces Cost?

Clear braces general cost about as much as traditional braces, though the overall price will differ from patient to patient. There is no saying exactly how much you will need to pay. If affordability is a concern for you, be aware that we offer several different affordability options.
