Telephone respondents were recently asked to rate each profession on a five point scale ranging from “very high” to “very low.” In the poll released last month, 62% of respondents ranked Dentists with either a “high” or “very high” rating. The overall honesty ratings of all medical professions including dentists are at their highest in history.
The poll which is conducted periodically since the late 1970’s doesn’t always include dentists. The first poll of professionals for their perceived honesty which included dentists was released in 1981 and since then, it may come as no surprise that Dentists have always pulled in higher rankings than Members of Congress, State and Local Office Holders, Lawyers, Lobbyists, Psychiatrists, and Journalists. Their rank continues to climb with every poll and has now tied with their 2006 score, their highest yet.
The top ten in this year’s poll included all the medical professions polled together with Engineers, Police Officers, College Teachers and Clergy. Dentists thank their strict ADA policies and stringent Code of Ethics and are grateful that the public recognizes this, as well.
The not-for-profit ADA has advocated for the public’s health since 1859. Their state-of-the-art research facilities develop and test products and materials that have advanced the practice and made patient’s experiences more positive.
These results come as no surprise to Dr. Dan Matthew’s patients who know that honesty and strong ethical practices are keys to his practice.
