Tooth loss is not uncommon in rugby, and many players eventually seek dental implants to replace missing teeth. Recently, a few Argentine rugby players, a beer company and a cosmetic dentist joined forces to create a promotion that features dental implants with a twist.
If you suffer from a missing tooth or missing teeth, dental implants can restore function to your bite and beauty to your smile. To learn more, please call Austin, Texas, implant dentist Dr. Dan Matthews at 512-452-2273 to schedule your personal consultation.
A Beer Ad with Bite
Argentina’s Salta beer partnered with a few rugby players who lost teeth in the field of play for an advertisement that has since gone viral on YouTube.
The ad features the players’ visits to a cosmetic dentist to receive dental implants with a novel feature: they were designed to pop open beer bottles. “We decided to give rugby players back the teeth they had lost in battle,” the ad states. “But we weren’t going to give them a simple tooth back. We developed a unique dental implant, a specially designed tooth to open beer.”
At the end of the ad, the players demonstrate the strength and usefulness of their implants by doing something you should never do with your natural teeth, let alone restorative dental work.
The Durability of Real Dental Implants
While standard dental implants should never be used to open bottles, they are the strongest and longest-lasting solution for replacing missing teeth and restoring bite functionality. With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime.
Dental implants look, feel and perform just like healthy natural teeth. They feature screw-like titanium posts that act as replacement tooth roots; jawbone naturally fuses around the implants to hold them in place in a process known as osseointegration.
The implants are then topped with dental crowns, which are custom-crafted from durable dental-grade porcelain. The crowns are designed to fit seamlessly with your remaining natural teeth, and they look and function just like real teeth.
The Importance of Treating Missing Teeth
Missing teeth may make you feel self-conscious about the appearance of your smile, but they can also cause progressive dental problems.
When teeth are missing, the surrounding teeth gradually begin to shift into the gaps. This can cause bite conditions, lead to loss of bone density in the jaws, and increase your risk for periodontal disease.
Dental implants are just one solution for replacing missing teeth. To learn more about dental implants and other treatments, please contact Dan Matthews, DDS, online or call our office at 512-452-2273. Dr. Matthews welcomes patients from and visitors to the greater Austin, Texas, area.
